Dry dry dry!

I'm not big on personal appearance.

I mean, I do like to look reasonably tidy but comfort is the over-riding factor and I'm fortunate that jeans and sweatshirts are the order of dress at work. I am clean (before y'all start "ewww"ing at me!) and I shower every day. But I don't wear make-up and my hair tends to dry itself into a bit of a curly mop these days and usually gets pulled up into a pony-tail.

But I have to say, much as I love Autumn, this weather is playing havoc with my skin and hair. The cold, the frost, the icy rain and the central heating are turning my skin into crepe paper. Red crepe paper at that. And it hurts! My skin stings it's so dry, and this is despite me slathering on the moisturiser three times a day.

And my hair!? Oh yes, we are really doing the dry straw static thing.

Such a fetching look.

I am trying to keep hydrated by drinking litres of water. Unfortunately your body has a way of saying "enough!" by then ensuring that you keep running to the loo every 1/2 hour and your colleagues are beginning to wonder what on earth is wrong with you.

You just can't win!

Relate to face dry, hair dry, but since I started to put foot cream on my hands instead of handcream they have been like velvet!

That could be me, on many a day. I use VO5 hair dressing every morning. It works wonders. If you don't have that, I'll send you some, no problem. As far as the hands I think Lesley has a great idea, the richer the cream, the better.

  4. I wasn't sure what that was a picture of when I first popped in.

I have to say - I have the same attitude toward grooming - I am not a fancy schmancy lady as my Mom used to call it. Comfort is of primary importance.

  5. Birds of a feather...
But from a nurse. Water keeps you well hydrated. But skin and scalp 'moisture' is not moisture, unless you're sweating, it's actually oil.
So eat lots and lots of olive oil! Or butter. Chocolate works, too.

  6. I have a great home remedy for straw head. Prerequisite--a Saturday night where you're guaranteed not to see anyone for a few hours. Combine 1/4 cup full fat mayonnaise and 1 egg yolk. Slather on your dry hair, cover with a shower cap, and let your head "steep" for an hour or so (pretty girl!!). At end of wait time, shampoo as usual and you should have better hair.

For skin that is red and stinging and dry, I've switched over to a very unglamourous soap, Cetaphil. Can find it at drugstores. It was recommended to me by a nurse.

  9. Wow. I think I've gone to his/her hairdresser in the past. Had the same look after.

It's that time of year alright. My daughter was just complaining about dry skin and itching. And so it begins. Ugh.
