Fun Monday - Quirks

Our hostess for Fun Monday this week is the lovely Lisa at Lisa's Chaos and this is our assignment:

A quirk is defined as a peculiarity of action, behavior, or personality; mannerism. We are all unique individuals, having quirks that help make us who we are. I would like to know what your quirks are. Confess to one, confess to ten, you decide. Just come back Monday ready to spill the beans, the rest of the world may look at you like you are from Mars, but you‘re among friends here. We won’t laugh, in fact that eccentricity just may endear you to us more.

Quirks. Hmmmm.....if you asked me if I had any quirks I would have said I had them in spades. But now I come to write about them, I can't seem to bring them all to mind, they are probably such an integral part of my nature that I don't think of them as quirks any more! But here's a few:

1. If we're having dinner where I put food in serving bowls on the table, I cannot bear to have other people put food on my plate, even if they are being helpful because I'm running round getting the things I've forgotten to put on the table. I HAVE to serve myself. Himself used to do this for me and it used to send me into a complete tizz.

2. I have to serve food steaming hot. Himself despairs and has to wait 10 minutes before he can eat his dinner.

3. My last mouthful of food from my plate has to be a small bit of everything that was on it.

4. Trousers must be folded at the seams and NOT creased down the middle of the leg. Himself does that and it drives me insane.

5. Toilet rolls on the holder have to unroll "over" not under.

6. If I'm driving and I'm turning right, please don't tell me that the road to my left is clear. I'M in control of the car and will check for myself, thank you.

7. To me, baked beans are breakfast food, so having them for tea is a bit of a treat. Himself says that's definitely one of my quirks because everyone knows baked beans are meant to be eaten at tea time and having them for breakfast is just plain silly.

8. Eating fried eggs on toast - I eat as much white as I can without disturbing the yolk. Then I carefully remove the rest of the white from around the yolk, then spread the yolk over my toast.

9. Boiled eggs - If they've been over done and aren't runny any more, I add a little knob of butter to make the yolk runny again. We were staying with my mum and step-father once when both my mother and I did this. My step-father and Himself just looked at us with the jaws dropping. Mum and I looked back and asked what the heck their problem was. They still don't get it.

10. Ketchup goes on the side of the plate..not all over the food. Unless it's mayo on salad, then it goes all over.

I'm sure there are a lot more and I shall update the list as they come to me!

Now head on over to Lisa's Chaos to find out about everyone else's quirks!

  1. I, myself am an "under" girl! But I gave that up a long time ago with Hubby. I am just happy now if a new roll makes it on!

  2. #5 sounds like my dear man. LOL

And something else? Love your "Princess" below too.

My FM is posted...come on over!!

  3. Why, of course, toilet rolls have to roll over. When you come to dinner, I will put out serving bowls and try to have the food steaming hot.

  4. Me, toilet paper rolls, who cares? The rest of your list, I can roll with but #3, is beyond me, you are too funny. Quirks are not a bad thing, they make us unique, at least you recognized yours.

  5. From the blogs I've read so far a lot of people have food quirks, no me. Just proves everyone is diffrent.

  6. I have to serve my food piping hot, too! When i was first married my husband called me the dinner nazi because he had to come to dinner the minute I put it on the table. I think he gets it from his mom, every meal there is lukewarm at best! lol

  7. Ok I do the same thing as #3.

  8. I quite agree about people not putting food on my plate - I hate it! Also about toilet rolls. Funny lot arent we?!

  9. OVER...yes, that paper MUST GO OVER the roll! Seems like there is a lot of food quirkiness amongst the participants this week!

  10. Toilet paper rolls -- ugh! Yakov Schmirnov, a well-known comedian who immigrated to the U.S. from Russia many years ago, has a theater here in Branson, MO. His show includes the topic of toilet paper. Better yet, the restrooms in his theater have 2 rolls of TP. You guessed it --- one over and one under!

    Loved your blog!

  11. Like you, I had to stop and think myself this morning … but I enjoyed your list … am totally with you on the toilet paper rolls direction … and I often eat ‘non-traditional’ things for breakfast that others find odd. I love the suggestion for the boiled eggs and will give it a try the next time I get an ‘overdone’ egg.
    Hugs and blessings,

  12. You gotta love a bunch of quirks about food. Baked beans and tea, intriguing.

  13. yup! I do the fried egg one ... but I neatly remove and eat all the white and then secretly eat the yolk whole, while no one is looking. That's so that it doesn't spill everywhere and get wasted and then go all hard on the plate and make the dish washing difficult!

In fact, most of your quirks seem really logical to me!
    :-)

  14. I'm totally with you on #5. I have even trained my children to think that is the only "right way". lol

  15. Hee hee, I with you on 5 too. It drives me mad if it's the wrong way. Weird. :D

  16. I laughed. Interesting about the ketchup. And, I do the same thing with eggs.

  17. That's all? No special homicide methods?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Quirky? You? Nah! What is it with those people who, while being good enough to actually REPLACE the toilet paper roll... do it bass ackwards? Over the top, of course, what other way even works?

Long time no see - I'm posting and visiting blogs again... I'll be back.

  19. Hurray for another over the top TP role person. You says you have quirks you sound perfectly normal to me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, please don't put food on my plate and the toilet paper roll deserves all to itself!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I could not eat a runny egg, ever. But I think you have enoug hquirks that we would be grand friends irl. :)

    Thanx for playing!

  22. i am with on the toilet paper, i hate runny egg yolks, baked beans can be eaten anytime...i liked your post

    ReplyDelete
  23. Okay, I'm still scratching my head over the "serve myself" quirk. Is it the temp, how much of a certain thing, or what you want to eat? I do agree though that most of the time we have to be sick before trusting someone to fill our plate.

As I type, there are two adorable ears stick up from previous post. Yes, she is a princess.

  24. I am the smae with my TP...over NOT under! But baked beans for BREAKFAST??? Everyone knows baked beans go with BBQ ribs and hamburgers or, my favorite way - mixed together with cut up hotdogs...yum! I'd never thought of them as a breakfast food!

    Have a great week :)

  25. great list Jo...looks like most of us have food quirks!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. sorry I called you Jo...don't quite know why I did that Angela!!

  27. Over!!! Over!!! It's the ONLY way to hang toilet paper.

And I'm with you on #6. If I'm driving, I will look - thankyouverymuch.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, toilet rolls OVER, not under. Why do men not understand that concept??

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes, you are absolutely right, food does have to be piping hot. I have to show this entry to the husband and prove to him I'm not the only one.
Nothing is worse than getting a plate of food at 'room temperature'. Okay, there are a lot of things that are worse, but it doesn't make luke warm food any better.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm an "over" TP gal, too. Is there any other way??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ewwww! Runny yolks???? Disgusting!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes. The roll MUST go over. Who wants it running down the grubby wall? Ick. (Not that my wall is grubby... but certainly everyone else's is. Ick.)

I've posted a few of my quirks in the past (under the "my quirks" label... I'm so clever). I've got some weird ones for sure. Loved all of yours and agreed with most. Fun post!
