Google googles me

I have discovered Google Reader. Having read on several other blogs how brilliant it is, I decided to investigate.

It is indeed brilliant. It tells me who has new posts and lists them all neatly for me to read right there without having to click through each link on my blogroll to see who's posted. How organised is that?

But, as ever, there is a payback. Before Google Reader, I was happily in ignorance of any new posts on my favourite blogs. I usually caught up as and when I had time and tried to get to all of them at least once or twice a week.

But now, now I know there are blog posts to be read and I can see them starting to mount up. Instead of blissful ignorance, I now have guilt for not getting to everyone as soon as they post.

Technology...some days I really hate it.

  1. I am in the same case as you and that's why I am here already ! I just opened my Google Reader, lol ! I have it since 2 or 3 weeks and also think it's great. It saves a lot of time ! So now if you don't comment immediately on my post, I know you didn't like what I wrote, lol ! But you have still the excuse that you are sleeping while I am already up since hours !

  2. I so relate to this ... recognizing there is good and bad in everything. GR can be overwhelming at times (especially if you don't 'MARK ALL AS READ' when adding someone new) but it is a helpful way to keep up as long as I'm 'discriminating' about who I add ... ignore the large number of new posts listed at the top and 'organize' blogs in folders categorized in meaningful ways. It's all about having options and making choices ;--)
    Hugs and blessings,

  3. Now this is what I am doing in my bloglines, instead of doing the baking I had planned! I keep saying I'll look at one more, then one more....!

  6. You're so right. Readers are handy, but I get this idea in my head that I have to read all the current posts. It's that bolded type--must finish all.

I use Bloglines, too. I like it better than Google Reader.

  7. Hi Angela, My Reader is hard to ignore, but I love it. The key for me is to limit the subscribtions. If I see a new blog I think I'll like, I give it a try. If it doesn't work for me, I find I'm not interested or not commenting, I delete it. Even with that I find I have 40-45 blogs I keep track of. My daughter has about 200, that makes me feel more under control!!

  12. Amen, amen. I worked long hours Sunday and Monday and Tuesday. Opened my reader this morning and found 153 new posts to read.

ARRRGGGHHH!! I am up to 76 now and pleased as punch to be here but, oh my gosh, I've either got to keep up better or trim my list.

  13. Now how cool is that! I do agree that technology can be both a blessing and curse.
